Artist Statement:
My paintings explore the edge between abstraction and representation with an emphasis on the expressive use of color. Color is the soul of my work, reflecting the rich intersection between what is known and what is felt. My work grows in a subconscious / conscious effort as I connect imagery to memory to reality. It is marked by lively mounds of pigment and bold juxtaposition of colors. In the end, a delicate balance is achieved between abstract mark making and recognizable form. In many ways, my paintings are journeys into the realm of process. Like the Abstract Expressionists, I am inspired by the act of painting itself and by the imposing relationship of color and form.
